Several countries have realized the dangers of the plastic bags to the environment, and many of them have implemented and are considering ban on plastic bags.
Why is plastic bag bad for environment?
Plastic bags are bad for environment as they are non-biodegradable this means that they do not decompose like other items so this creates pollution in the environment. People will throw them after using them, this will create litter. Plastic bags generally chock water pipes and sewerages creating problems for traffic and water gets accumulated on the roads. Plastic bags if burned result in large amounts of toxic gases being released in to environment
Methods to reduce Plastic Bags
- More and more people should be made aware of the consequences of plastic bags.
- Research should be made in to making bio-degradable plastic bags so people could use these ones instead of the non-biodegradable.

- At the shopping centers, staff should be instructed to request customers to carry minimum plastic bags .
- Plastic bags should be replaced with the paper or cotton bags.
- A fine should be imposed particularly to households if they throw plastic bags and garbage outside their house.
